Victorian London - Entertainment and Recreation - Drinking - Temperance movement - drinking amongst City workers

I think it a strange habit for business men of all ranks to knock off at eleven o'clock in the morning and go out to a public-house for a drink. I notice this particularly in the City in the neighbourhood of the Bank. Champagne at sixpence a glass appears to be the favourite tipple.
