Victorian London - Women - Education, Employment and Emancipation - women in the Post Office

In reply to an advertisement for 11 young women to be employed in London post-offices, the Civil Service Gazette states that about 2000 candidates presented themselves at the offices of the Commissioners in Cannon-row this week. For the eleven posts the Commissioners examined more than 1000 candidates.
